About my work

Stained glass making is a craft which dates back hundreds of years and many of the techniques used today remain very close to those used by early makers. I enjoy using these traditional methods but combining them with newer ways of working with glass, incorporating other elements like wood, paper and feathers.

They say you can learn stained glass in a weekend and spend the rest of your life mastering it, and this is very much where I see myself. Having spent most of my career in the busy world of Human Resource management, I began to learn about stained glass as a hobby on a weeekend course in 2011. I felt I’d discovered a passion and I have never looked back.

I am lucky enough to live on the beautiful Solway Coast in southwest Scotland and take much of my inspiration from the natural things I stumble upon when walking on our family farm or beyond.

Hand made in my little glass studio , all of the items you can see here are made by shaping and smoothing glass, adding copper foil or lead and constructing with wire, cement or solder. Where I use a base this is generally made from driftwood found on the shoreline around home. The wood is carefully dried and sanded, perhaps painted, then treated with a beeswax polish. It all takes time and care, but the finished items give me pleasure and I hope you will enjoy them too.
